Our Rivers Campaign

The Our Rivers Campaign is asking people across Northern Ireland to adopt their local river

Adopting a river on the Our Rivers NI website provides an opportunity to inform the Northern Ireland Environment Agency about conditions on our local river and how they should be managed. This information will feed into the Local River Management Plans that are currently being developed.

From recreation to business, it is the people of Northern Ireland who know the most about their local river; now is your chance to share it - it may help save the river!

This campaign is important for registering concerns expressed by members of the public about the status of our local water quality with the Northern Ireland Environment Agency, the competent authority for implementing the Water Framework Directive in Northern Ireland.

To Adopt your River:

  • Type in the name of the River you want to adopt
  • Provide the information requested
  • A username and password will be emailed to you

Once you have your password, you can log in to your River File to comment on the state of your river and suggest actions that would help to improve it. You can also upload photos, find out how to lobby your local MLA or contact the media to raise the profile of your river!

You can find out lots more information about the campaign, the status of our water quality in Northern Ireland, NIEA's plans for rivers across Northern Ireland on www.ourriversni.org.uk and what you can do to help save our local rivers.

The Our Rivers NI campaign seeks to unite all those who care about improving our water quality to ensure that NIEA develops and implements local plans which tackle the real water quality problems at a local level.
