Funding for waste announced

Environment Minister Edwin Poots has announced additional funding of £200,000 for resource efficiency and innovative waste management projects.

This is the revenue stream of the multi-million pound Rethink Waste Fund that the Minister announced in May of this year.

This additional fund will make grants available to the community and voluntary sector, private sector and local councils for revenue costs associated with projects that will boost waste prevention, recycling and re-use.

Projects diverting household waste from landfill will assist in easing the burden on ratepayers who ultimately bear the cost of landfill tax.

Grants will also be available for schemes improving resource efficiency. This includes reducing energy consumption and the use of alternative raw materials (such as recycled products) as well as waste minimisation.

Further detailed information on the application process, including the assessment criteria, application form and guidance notes is available on the news and events section of Rethink Waste.
